Elsa: ”Put your excuses aside”

It’s easy to find excuses not to follow your dreams. It’s easy to stay at home and pretend you can’t do what you really want because of all the problems you have.

We constantly find things in our surroundings to blame our lack of freedom on: ”I don’t have enough money”. ”I can’t leave my life”. ”I have obligations at home”. ”I have an apartment or a good job that I can’t leave”. ”I am not mentally strong enough”.

None of these things is a good reason not to do what you really want.

I met a guy here in Australia that told me something everyone should listen to. ”If you have two legs, two eyes, two arms and your health, you have the chance to turn your life around.”.

Most of the people I have met here have some sort of problems they are trying to run away from. They might not have good contact with their family, they might have done things they regret that makes them want to leave their home, but what they all have in common is that they are all trying to find something better.

You can’t fix all of your problems and sometimes you have to leave it all behind to start from scratch. A hard childhood or bad conditions at home is something many people are using as an excuse to stay at home and feel bad for themselves. But once again: If you have your health you have the ability to start over. Don’t let things in the past stop you from following your dreams. Don’t let problems in the present drag you down and take your spark away.

Even if running away isn’t always a good option, sitting around and worrying about things you can not change isn’t better. Sometimes you just have to think about yourself and do what will make you happy. It doesn’t have to be travelling the world and physically leave your problems. It can be as simple as getting a new job that you love or make new friends that make you feel more appreciated. It’s never too late to change and it is never too late to stop making excuses.

It’s easy to lie to others and make them believe you’re happy with your life, but it’s even easier to lie to yourself, but deep down I think everyone has that longing for something bigger. That desire to see more and do more and that urge to create something better for yourself. Just put your excuses aside and ask yourself what you would do if you had all the possibilities in the world. Because you do have it if you just fight hard enough for it.
